Traben-Trarbach on the Mosel

From the bank of the river Mosel one can look in at two parts of town Traben and Trarbach. Traben limited by the former fortress Mont Royal and Trarbach, which stretches into the "Kautenbach Tal (valley)", borders on the Hunsrück.

Historical buildings and excellent wines

The most significant time of the wine cultivation and wine trade in Traben-Trarbach was between end of the 19. and at the beginning of 20-th century. After Bordeaux Traben-Trarbach was the most important wine trade metropolis worldwide. The watchman's night tour, a guided tour through vineyards and wine cellars as well as a guided tour especially for children are interesing offers. Many art nouveau buildings, which were designed by the Berliner architect Bruno Möhring come from thie epoch. Amateurs of the art nouveau style can book a special guided tour.

Events, culture and leisure time in Traben-Trarbach

Persons who love suspense and entertainment should visit the casiono. Also woth seeing are the ruins of castle Grevenburg which is managed and at which you can see from the holiday cottage. Next to the ruins of fortress Mont Royal which was built at the time as Traben-Trarbach still was controlled by the French, a great climbing parc as well as a sports airfield are situated. From the latter one can book round trip to discover the area by plane.

Discover the Mosel region

A boat trip with the Mosel ship "Moselperle" offers the possibility to get to know other wine cities. In those occasions where the weather sometimes does not cooperate, numerous mueseums like, among other things, the baroque villa Böcking in which already Goethe is said to have stayed, the Mittelmosel museum, the house of the icons and a bicycle museum invite to a visite. Or simply go at vesper for wine tasting at one of the numerous winegrowers who will be happy to receive you.
Wonderful etablishments like multi star hotels, cosy restaurants and unusually furnished establishments offer a regional or as well as demanding kitchen. To our opinion a visit to the small "Straußwirtschaften" (small local inn) is something to be recommended. These small inns which have opened only one part of the year, offer inexpensive, home-baked courts, often in individual furnished former winepress cellars.

Traben-Trarbach therefore has something to offer to you at every season - no matter whether winter- or summertime.
